We all have those days where our emotions are so close to the surface that someone could read us like an open book right? I am having more like thirty of those days right in a row. My feelings aren't always sad or upsetting feelings but for some reason I feel so much....Whats the word??Emotion? Sympathy? Empathy? who knows what. Today a woman Probably in her early thirties came into the salon, she didn't have an appointment, but she said she needed something...ANYTHING.. to make her feel a little bit better. She really just needed Human touch. Someone to wash her hair for her. I looked at this woman and in an instant I recognized the look in her eyes. It was despair, it was pain, and worst of all it was helplessness. It was the look that I had on my face for eighteen months of my life. Prior to back surgery. AND still I have many of those days. I walked around the reception desk and asked her what was the matter. I really didn't need to, I already knew. Her eyes got glossy as she explained to me that her back problems were controlling her life, that she hasn't been able to pick up her two year old this whole month, that she can't go five minutes without the constant nagging of pain...That who knows when the last night was that she actully slept well...I didn't care that I had never before spoken to this new client, that she didn't know my name or I hers. I gave her a huge hug and told her it would be okay... even though it feels hopeless today.. and that today it won the Battle..She would win the war. I told her my story. And I cried with her. And You know looking back at the last two years I sometimes don't know how I made it. And it has been really easy for me to find myself frustrated and confused about why I needed to go through all of that and why it still is an everyday trial.. Why I still need to be in pain everyday? But today I didn't have to talk myself into believing that it was all for my good and that there is a reason for all the pain and suffering. TODAY I saw that the reason I needed to go through this was to help someone like this..Someone who feels like today was more than she could take and NEEDED more than anything for someone to Understand just how hard it is to try to put a smile on your face, how it feels inside to know that you are trying to decieve the whole world and not let them see through you when someone asks how is your back feeling? How trying and depressing and humbling and excruciating and all around overwhelming the whole journey is.. and for the first time I saw this huge trial, this theif of the last two years of my life, as a BLESSING. I will Pray for you friend, and you will find better days.
